Guide to Backlit LED Mirrors

This difficult year is coming to an end, and while we may not want to go through the hassle of starting a big renovation on our home or business it would be nice to make some changes. The trick is to find the most impactful transformations with as little effort as possible.

One space where a small fix can create a big impact is of course, the bathroom. We often forego the ambiance of the bathroom. But of all the rooms in your home, the bathroom is the space where you spend alone time, preparing yourself for whatever comes your way that day. Having a functional, well lit bathroom that also inspires peace and relaxation will have a positive impact on your mental health and well being.

Today we’d like to share a guide about a bathroom transformation you can make without too much cost or hassle - an LED backlit mirror. This blog post features lighting fixtures from Eurofase Lighting, proudly represented by us here at SP Agency.

First - a bit about bathroom lighting.

A bathroom needs proper lighting to be functional, and effective lighting for a bathroom can be tricky. Small rooms and tight spaces make it challenging to placing sconces, ceiling lights, and even light switches. The bathroom also needs to accommodate a variety of tasks that require different types of lighting.

For example, a light in the centre of the room will not provide shadow-free task lighting at the mirror. while just a sconce above the mirror may provide excellent task lighting, but won’t provide enough ambient light in the shower.

Optimal lighting usually looks like good task lighting layered with ambient light. Some may choose sconces on either side of the mirror or hanging pendant task lighting. Either way, this requires multiple fixtures and may not be realistic for smaller spaces.

In this case, consider an LED Backlit Mirror.

What is a Backlit Mirror?

A Backlit Mirror usually works with LED lights sitting behind the mirror, outlining its perimeter - giving off a subtle but sufficient light with a relaxing glow.

Installing a backlit bathroom mirror will give you beautiful and functional lighting without the need for separate light fixtures. The warm glow will transform your bathroom into an inviting and relaxing space, while giving you the functionality of a well lit mirror.

Why choose a Backlit Mirror?

  • A backlit mirror works double duty especially for smaller spaces. Hanging pendants take up valuable reflection space, and the light reflecting in the mirror can be distracting. Backlit mirrors offer superior light coverage while maintaining space efficiency.

  • An even amount of light is emitted on you, with no shadows cast on your face - making it perfect for tasks like applying make up, shaving and any type of grooming.

  • Backlit mirrors are much more energy efficient, as LED bulbs use less energy and last longer than incandescent lightbulbs.

  • A backlit mirror emits a soft, even glow - creating a calming modern ambiance .

  • To put it simply - backlit mirrors make you look good, and when you look good, you feel good.

How to choose the right Backlit Mirror for your space:

  • Size: Make sure to take into account the overall proportions of the room when choosing the size of your mirror. It can actually be too big for the room in which case it overpowers the décor and makes it feel overwhelming. On the other hand, choosing a mirror that’s too small is impractical.

  • Frame: Decide if you want a frameless or framed backlit mirror. Framed mirrors are a statement, while frameless mirrors are more minimal. Either way, a backlit mirror can create a beautiful new focal point in your bathroom.

  • Shape: Rounded edges like round or oval mirrors offer a softer, more feminine look

  • Storage: If you need extra storage, another possibility is choosing a backlit medicine cabinet mirror.
